The average person spends more time per day on their mattress than anywhere else in their home. If you’re going to invest that much time, you might as well invest some money in it too. If there’s one key to longevity it’s getting a good night’s sleep. It’s something that everyone who lives into their 90’s and beyond have in common. And a good night’s sleep starts with a good mattress.
Most mattresses use the support of tempered steel coils. They will often be in different configurations. These are called the innerspring mattress systems. Upholstery between your body and the springs is what separates a good mattress from a bad one. Some people think it’s the number of springs. While that can contribute, the quality and quantity of the upholstery is just as important if not more so.
Some people think that all they need is a mattress. The box spring plays a critical role and should not be overlooked at all. The best mattresses have a high quality box spring as well as great innerspring systems. Don’t overlook the box spring because of cost. It can make or break a great mattress. Using the wrong box spring can also make the mattress wear out in less than half the normal time. Be smart and change them both at the same time.
You should probably replace a mattress every 8 to 10 years. Over that time they usually wear down and the springs no longer support as well as they used to. While price is a factor for almost everyone when getting a new mattress, I wouldn’t be too quick to just buy the lowest priced mattress. Very often you can see a huge difference in comfort and longevity of a mattress with just a small step up in price. A few more hundred dollars is probably not going to make or break you. It will however mean a great night’s sleep which can help you in so many ways health wise.
I have never purchased a mattress online, however, if I were you I’d do lots of research online before going into any store. You should know the difference between certain features so you can accurately tell which price points are good and which are bad. And you should never be afraid to negotiate for a better price. Mattress stores will often discount their prices to keep you from buying from a competitor. Don’t be afraid to ask or say that you’re interested, but another company has a better deal. You will most likely get more of a discount.
So don’t just go cheap when choosing a mattress. Quality counts because that good night’s sleep is vital to your good health. Best of luck to you in your search for a mattress and may all your dreams be pleasant!
